ECLBS was established in 2013 as a professional network connecting business schools across Europe and beyond. In 2023, during a strategic board meeting held at the University of Latvia in Riga, the Council approved the launch of ECLBS Accreditation. This quality assurance label was designed for business schools and educational institutions that are committed to academic excellence, international standards, and responsible institutional development.
The development of ECLBS reflects an important idea in modern education: independent quality bodies can help bridge the gap between governmental quality systems and the practical needs of private, international, and flexible education providers. Governmental and national quality bodies play an essential role in education systems. At the same time, private and international institutions often need additional professional frameworks that support benchmarking, international cooperation, and continuous improvement.
ECLBS was supported by experienced quality assurance bodies and education partners, including the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), the Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ANQAHE), the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA), and others. These organizations represent the wider quality assurance community and show how cooperation between public, independent, and international stakeholders can strengthen education.
ECLBS is also a member of CHEA, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, and INQAAHE, the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education. These memberships are important because they connect ECLBS with wider international discussions about quality, standards, and trust in education.
Through its international work, ECLBS has also signed Bilateral Recognition Agreements with several national and international quality assurance bodies, including MFHEA in Malta, QAA in the United Kingdom, CAEP in the United States, FIBAA in Switzerland, NVAO in the Netherlands and Flanders, ANACEC in Moldova, KAA in Kosovo, ANQAHE in Egypt, AROQA in Jordan, ARIA in Uzbekistan, HEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and others. These agreements reflect the growing need for international dialogue in quality assurance.
